Well shit…as much as it pains me to say I just became a Steelers fan. Bears are so fucking stupid.

The Chicago Bears are trading quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 2025 6th-round pick that can convert into a fourth-round pick based on playtime, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday.
Fields joins Russell Wilson in an overhauled quarterback room that doesn't return any players from the 2023 roster after the team traded 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett to the Eagles on Friday afternoon. Pickett had expressed a desire to be traded following Wilson agreeing to terms with the team late Sunday night.
Fields, though, will not compete with Wilson for a starting job, a team source told ESPN. Instead, Fields is expected to learn from the Super Bowl winner and nine-time Pro Bowler in Pittsburgh.

Fields has the tools but its just a question if he can ever develop enough to take advantage of them. I like the move for the Steelers.

Justin Fields to the Steelers!
oh yeah and for a conditional 2025 4th rd (probably tied to playing time %). i think we can infer that the bears asked for a 2nd rd from the nfc teams and no one paid the price. interesting to see if the steelers will pick the 5th yr option or not for someone that is expected to be a back up.
i like the steelers-bears connection going on. so far we have claypool + conditional 2025 4th for 2023 2.1 + fields

maybe the steelers will send 1st + 2nd to MIN for justin jefferson, who probably wants out now that there's no qb in town. that would definitely allow MIN to trade up to 1.3 or 1.2 for a qb.

Fields for a 6th is a bargain, pissed we did not go for him at that price! Too cheap for a legit QB IMO. He is going to be good. We’ve seen the flashes. Just needs the right OC to bring out the best in him. I’d give anything to have him in Dallas.

At that point just keep him for a 6th round pick right? There is no way Russ beats him out for the starting job there right? It is a cluster for both teams IMO now.

I don't understand the love for Justin Fields. He has the running ability of a Lamar Jackson and thats something that will always make him viable and unpredictable.
But he isn't good enough as a thrower to be a starting QB. I think he will develop into one of those QBs who get a few shots at a starting gig, but in the end he materialize as a high end backup or a below average starting bridge QB for a year here and there.

Agree, he is really bad. He's horrible at processing and throwing to anything other than his 1st read. And he now goes to another team without a brilliant offensive mind calling plays so he will be more of the same.

we'll take that in pittsburgh -- someone that can actually have a 1st read?! that's progress after kenny and trubisky lol

Don't misunderstand me, considering his price tag, he's a solid pickup, and Justin Fields isn't inferior to Pickett or Trubisky either. However, I'm skeptical about his potential to develop into a reliable starter. If Pittsburgh is aiming to win in the immediate future, I'd lean towards Russell Wilson over Fields for the upcoming season. While Wilson may have lost a step and isn't the same as the old Seahawks Wilson, his last season with the Broncos wasn't as dismal as portrayed in the media. If Russell Wilson acknowledges and embraces his decline, he could contribute effectively for one last season with the Steelers, while also aiding in the development of Fields. With Fields spending a year behind Wilson, learning the ropes, he could potentially step in as the starter in 2025. If he performs well, it's a win for the Steelers; if not, they could secure a high draft pick and pursue another promising young quarterback. Overall, I endorse this strategy because both Wilson and Fields come at reasonable prices currently, and acquiring a new rookie QB would also be cost-effective. This grants a significant window where the team isn't paying a premium for a quarterback, allowing resources to be allocated towards building the rest of the roster. Low Risk - High RewardGiven the presence of the Ravens, Bengals, and Browns in the division, they wouldn't be considered favorites even with a superior quarterback. Therefore, they are striving to win presently while also positioning themselves for the future at the same time.
