Welcome to the 2060 Red Zone Blitz Entry Draft. I'm your host Mike Florio and myself (along with some of my friends) will provide coverage of the 2060 draft. I will be announcing every pick in the first round and we even got Bighouserulez out of retirement to grade the top 10 picks.

49ers make it official as they select QB Bernard Brennan out of Arkansas with the #1 overall pick in the 2060 draft.
#1 prospect in this draft Bernard is one of those Elite prospects that come around every few years.
Arm Strength is never a question and put on a clinic at the combine. He was completing passes on his knees, accurately , on a dime, 40 yards downfield.
Huge frame with large hands Bernard sits at a tall 6 foot 4 and can take the punishment with his 240 pound frame. He just turned 21 and is already somewhat developed to start day one for the 9ers.
This kid excels in dropping the ball in with uncanny ball placement and does it behind a rocket arm. He also ran for 2000 yards rushing in 2 years for the Golden LIons.
He is a talented kid but does seem to struggle a little on timing routes with receivers and sometimes when the play breaks down.
Grade A+ Starter from day one and potentially for 15 years for the 9ers. 115 Grade puts this kid in HOF potential.

#8 rated prospect in this draft and one of those talented QBs that just understands the game and makes plays. He is more of a dual threat on every play when Bernard whereas Bernard uses his arm a little more to get out of pressure.
Another big kid that would have been debated as the #1 pick in this draft had Bernard not been around. He has all the intangibles you want in your starter. He has a knack of timing and hitting the receivers before then bust out of their route. Deadly accurate but makes defenses look sillier on 3rd downs.
Slutzker excels in breaking down the play and adlibbing. His accuracy and timing is hard to stop on the quick reads and medium slants. He is deadly with is legs and defenses get lulled to sleep while Slutzy is getting 20 yard chunks with his legs.
Reading defenses is normally something a higher end QB1 that does not come up as an issue. Ray is a great coach and follow the plan where to throw or make a play with his legs. If he has to go through reads in the pocket his decision making really slides into mediocrity at best. He also does not have that overpowering arm wrestle champion arm and it is noticeable on deep throws at times.
Grade A+ I think you have a signal caller that is an All pro with his 94.6 rating.

 The Jaguars just traded up from 1.8 to 1.3. No word on who the Jags are planning to take here, but the smart money is on the QB. |

I caught up with Lions GM Bighouserulez and asked him about the deal he just made with the Jaguars to drop down to 1.8. Here is what he had to say about the deal when I asked him if this was the right move:
"Mike, I am so needy that more picks the better tbh. Last year was a QB that everyone wanted and I traded back to gain a future first more than anything. Today I wanted to move out of the QB commotion and get some equity out of my pick. I am not really in the QB market right now. There is a WR I wanted but if there was a position I would say we do NOT need it would surprisingly be WR. This helps us get more talent on the team and still get one of those higher players. I love having a top pick but I am sick of losing. I am going to get as many picks as I can and get this roster healthy again. I am 32K over that cap right now before I work on it and I had the 3rd overall pick so that tells you something for sure. If i stuck in the spot i would have grabbed WR Buttersworth just on name alone! I have 9 players that are rated elite in this class. I am happy taking one of them tbh."
There you have it. I'm going to drop a line to Mikey and try to get his take on the deal.

Mikey did not have a lot to say about the deal, but he did tip his hand on what the team was planning to do with the pick. When I asked what his intentions were he did not hesitate:
"WR. We just added a QB. We had 14 picks going into this draft. We plan on moving up quite a bit to help move this team in the right direction."

I asked Dolphins GM landshark who he liked in the draft and he was quick to blurt out his desire to draft the young QB they wound up selecting at 1.2:
"Raymond "RainMan" Slutzker with the 2nd pick... he's a great fit for us, and we are in the perfect spot to draft him. No need to move up or down. We are assuming SF is taking QB Bernard Brennan..."
There you have it. The Dolphins believe they have their guy in Slutzker.

Bernard Brennan looks like a can't miss prospect. If I am the 49ers, I do not even bother looking at any other player. This kid can do it all. He's young, has a cannon for an arm. He's shifty and a true leader of men. Only bad luck can fuck this pick up.

Initial thoughts were that it is a top heavy draft with 3 QB's and 1 WR being the obvious top 4 players.
Of the top QBs, who do you like and why?
Brennan is the top QB for me though Smoot looks like a franchise QB too. My concern around Smoot is he is raw and we had issues with Skjerven who did not develop how we expected. Smoot has the strongest arm but we love Brennan's tape as he is better in the pocket, reads defenses and has the ability to take off and run the call when needed.
Any interest in making a move up or down this draft?
I have had a good offer for 1.1 but you can't pass on what we hope is a franchise QB
We lacked a 3rd round pick so traded backup QB Sinclair to add one

Florio here, the new draft class is out. Has anyone caught your eye? What are your initial thoughts?
So far the only players that stand out are the obvious ones. The QB's (which I don't need after last season), there's a couple CBs that look solid, and a couple DE's, but those are not what I need with the 1.7. I'm in that spot again where I always seem to be in RZB where I'm drafting too low to find an impact player, but high enough that says my previous record sucks. I spent alot of my last go around with the Saints in that spot where the drop off from players that matter and my pick exists. Is there any sleepers? Yeah, I see one, but not with the 1.7.

Brennan, those bars are insane. Don't sleep on Smoot though, he interesting.

Probably down or out, but I probably won't, and I'll take a CB or DE at 1.7...

I've not looked to be honest as I pick way down and don't need a QB, also I've only had a glance at the draft so far!

Only a few picks around me, i am more likely to sell my 1st this this unless i see a great player at 1.26

I had a chance to connect with Dolphins GM landshark and asked him about his new QB. This is what he had to say when I asked him why he took Slutzker at 1.2 and what he liked the most about him.
"He was the guy we wanted, as soon as the draft class was revealed.. he’s going to be a great fit in the locker room.. His “cheerful” disposition will make him very popular with all of our offensive leaders.. There was no one else that we considered.. He has great size, and can run if needed.. He has great intelligence, earning him the nickname “Rainman” in college.. His accuracy had some calling him “Ray-Gun”… not sure which nickname will stick in RZB…. we are hoping he can improve at reading defenses a bit..We’ve built a nice O-Line the last few years.. If we can add some skill players over the next few seasons, we like the way we are set up..."
Time will tell is Slutzker or Smoot was the right guy, but Scottie appeared to be very happy today. Let's see how he feels in a couple of seasons...
