2053 draft.
1.9 CB Miguel Blufer.
Why pick him? All my CBs seemed to take a nose dive last season, so I needed to upgrade in this area. Also, with the Steelers getting stronger in their passing game, this was sorta a must to stay in the mix.
What did we like? Very good looking coverage and INT bars, plus very good combines to back them up.
What flaws do we see? In our press defense, it looks like he'll be better at Man than Bump, but he should be very good at bump also to work well across from Alviz. Also, lack of Play Diagnosis could see him have problems against Play Action.
31/75 post draft, 36/64 post PS2. Loss of 11 potential. Seems to happen every season to my top draft picks.
3.25 OLB Johnathan Rader.
Why pick him? Had a weak spot at WLB and an aging SILB, and needed a guy who might be able to fill one of those roles.
What did we like? Looks like he has good run defense and zone, and blue agility.
What flaws do we see? Not a good PD combine, which will affect his zone bar. Play diagnosis is non existent. Average overall combines.
25/48 post draft, 28/41 post PS2. Loss of 7 potential. Yet another rookie who took a hit. Pretty typical for my teams.
5.5 DT Deron Crane.
Why pick him? As we didn't resign DE Nance last season, we needed to find someone to take his roster spot and play some ST.
What did we like? We liked his special teams and he looks like he could develop into a decent pass rusher at DE
What flaws do we see? Light weight for a 34 Eagle DE, not much run defense or play diagnosis.
29/48 post draft, 32/48 post PS2. Held his ratings pretty well. Should be a solid backup at DE and good ST performer.
6.9 T Everett Irwin.
Why pick him? We needed a backup guard, and thought he was the best choice to play guard for us.
What did we like? He had 3 blue and 1 red combine, and his run blocking bar looked good, plus he had blue combine in 40 to match.
What flaws do we see? Possibility that he may not convert well from T to G. Not the best pass blocker.
11/43 post draft, 16/46 post PS2. +3 potential. Should become a good backup guard.
Undrafted TE Amari Jackson. 18/32 post draft, 23/36 post PS2. +4 potential.
Undrafted ILB Ty Lindsay. 22/31 post draft, 26/37 post PS2. +6 potential.
So my 6th rounder and two undrafted rookies look great. 5th rounder looks like a guy who will contribute. Our top 2 picks... Blufer still LOOKS solid, even with a great combine and good looking bars in the draft... Rader... meh... we'll see if he can play this season by possibly getting him some starts.
Overall not unhappy with the draft, but the results after PS2 were not promising. Of course, Alcott looked like a dud after his first TC and PS2, but bounced back nicely this offseason... so we'll hope it's just the regular masking process from my terrible scouting.
