Like i said people were ho hum about this draft. Let me throw a little Review in. NO pressure guys not as much time as i used to have just working on it during my down time and the slow roll.
OK let's hit it-
1 - 1 (1) Philadelphia Coldheat007 Todd Middleton RB Texas
Pros-Great receiver out of the backfield and makes the first defender miss every time. Built like a duck on steroids that never misses leg day at 5 foot 11 and 228 pounds. Extremely fast kid with breakaway speed that is very deceptive and an angle beater. Good to great hole recognition in whatever scheme you put him in. Probably the most complete overall player in this draft and the best every down back that does not come out of the game.
Cons-Short list here but no return skills and just ok on special teams. Not a PTP'r when it comes to 3rd downs and let's talent overplay him in big situations sometimes. Could be a better WR if he was able to lose the weight and work at the position.
Rating-97 1st RB on board 2nd player on the big board(All Pro) Grade A+ In a school of fish one is always a little shinier then the others
1 - 2 (2) Houston Wes (online) Weston Swolley QB Shippensburg
Pros-Big arm kid that can muscle any throw into the passing tree. Scary accurate for a big arm QB and elite timing with his WRs. NIce size kid that sits on top of the pocket and picks defenses away at times.
Cons-Extremely unathletic imagine a slender NFL player with Morty's muscle arm and bricks attached to his feet. Good college career but never led a touchdown with 2 minutes left. That was a major yellow flag for most teams. H2R from my scout and 2 vol could swing either way
Rating-79.4 1st RB on the board 20th player on the board(Great starter) Grade C+ I had him listed as the only good starter in the group. Not in love but QB and WR are like oil in water.
1 - 3 (3) Jacksonville Slimmikey Efrain Ikuma RB Stanford
Pros-Elite Speed that shows up better on tape then the Combine. Heading in to the combine i would have put him as the 1st overall pick. Reads defenses and puts in film study with natural instincts to read what hip to plant his foot. Good receiver and has great power inside to break some nice runs with his speed.
Cons-Not as much wiggle for a smaller stature speed guy. Not a good blitz pickup guy and not a great special teams player overall. The biggest deter amongst scouts with his endurance. He split time at Stanford and will struggle to be the every down back in RZb.
Rating-93.3 @2nd back on the board 7th player on the board(All Pro) Grade A I really liked this kid in a watered down draft he would have still been in the 1st round talk
OK so now we hit the i must draft a WR or busy mode. I was not a fan in this draft but let's see how this rolls out!
1 - 4 (4) Denver BgBob Lamont Seay WR Washington State
Pros-Electric kid that has great Big PLay potential on every play. Runs good routes and thrives in the middle of the field. Was the gunner on special teams and has good hands. Has good college bars and talent level and combines backed it up for the most part. I love that Big Play bar.
Cons-With all that talent he is not a go to player on 3rd down. He does not have any return ability at all. He had a good combine but not to the level of his college statistics show.
Rating-64.1 4th rated WR and 42nd player on the board(starter) Grade B- BP bar kid that i hope pans out for Big Bob.
1 - 5 (5) Detroit Sef0r Irving Keith OLB Washington
Pros-As i was going through this my defensive scout was not as good as my offensive scout. That being said i scouted Keith and got as is. Great all around linebacker that goes sideline to sideline. He is a stout 255 pound 6 foot 2 monster. Great motor on every play and even plays on special teams. The best defender in college football last year.
Cons-Lower then you would hope strength numbers on the field and seems to get manhandled at times. Has a decent bull rush against somewhat weaker offensive lineman and tight ends. I thought he would have had a slightly better combine but all around no complaints.
Rating-89.6 #2 rated LB 13th rated player on my board (Great player) Grade A a bigger blue bar lineup then i like to have here so i scouted the top few defensive players. Great all around pick
1 - 6 (6) Indianapolis Wackad00 Stevie Garcia WR Georgia Southern
Pros-The best route runner in the class and a special talent in the return game. Has hands like a catcher's mitt and as reliable as a number one WR can be. THis is the most pro ready player in this year's draft and has great 5 yard quickness.
Cons-Not a big play threat most of the time....Has great huge hands but does have the occasional drop for no reason. 25 year old rookie had me drop him down the list a little for most scouts. Slightly undersized at 5 foot 9 and 189 pounds for a #1 wr.
Rating-72.3 #1 Wr on my board 39th player on my board(starter) I really liked Garcia just scared away with that little BP bar is my only question mark.
1 - 7 (7) Miami shark44 Damien Farmer RB Indiana
Pros-There is not a back that east up the edge faster then Farmer. The best blitz pickup and 3rd down back in the draft. Great at anticipating offensive lineman movement and finding the smallest of holes. He is as sure handed as they come for a running back.
Cons-Not the breakaway speed that you would like from a high end draft pick. A ton of speed but not much ankles being broken. Lack of return ability holds him back a little for some scouts. I had him listed as a better WR then RB if he could lose weight and grow an inch.
Rating-90.6 3rd rated RB 12th rated WR (Great player) Grade B- the top 2 backs to be were 1A and 1B whereas Farmer was 3 and not on the same level.
1 - 8 (8) Carolina Pip Mike Baxter WR Mississippi
Pros-I really liked Baxter and despite him not being invited to the combine i had him in my could sneak into the top 5 guys. My scout loved him and gave him a boost on his bars and a VU so he raved about this kid. Great route runner and reliable special teams guy.
Cons-Decent ankle breaker but not on a consistant basis. Decent hands but does not have a ton of body control to excel at those tough catch points. Runs great routes but not a big crossing the middle of the field route tree runner. Has some endurance issues which is what held some scouts back. He bumped up about 15 spots for my scout but still under that ideal 50 range.
Rating-70.7 2nd rated WR 39th overall player (starter) Grade A Baxter is going to be a good WR and may end up being the best of the class IMO.
1 - 9 (9) Cleveland Murph Miguel Blufer CB Pittsburgh
Pros-Smart kid and one of the better players academically in this class. I have him listed as the best overall all around combine in this class. A playmaker at Pitt and shutdown cornerback and the kid is only 22 years old. High, high, high ceiling guy. Great hands and a heavy hitter. PLays strong in the run game....blah i feel like i am overly rambling but great player here.
Cons-Not as great at diagnosing the play as you would think for a college superstar all american. He does not have much in return skills and does seem to take a play off here and there. Raw kid that has a ton to learn in the RZB.
Rating-96.3 #1 Corner on my board #3 rated player(All Pro) Grade A+ love this pick love this kid may never reach his ceiling but this late in a water downed draft is a steal IMHO.
1 - 10 (10) Buffalo CMax (online) Randall Maiher T Tulsa
Pros-Maiher was not at the combine as he came into the draft . Young kid that is a mountain of a man that has the feet of a cheetah. He is 6 foot 7 and hands out pancakes like mother's day brunch. He is as strong as they come and punish defenders .
Cons-Non combine guy so that put off scouts a bit with the snobbish feel. Also the thing a scout pointed out to me is he is almost too good to be true and too pro ready. Is that a thing? I would say he is a RT exclusively but that is not always a bad thing.
Rating-95.8 #1 T on the board #5 player on the board (All Pro) I love this pick . I will not beat around the bush here but love this pick Grade A+
1 - 11 (11) Minnesota w24olfpack Ashton Esiason WR Georgia Tech
Pros- As you can see the non combine guys are starting to sneak in. Esiason is a great route runner which make him look faster then he truly is. Some of the best hands in this draft class and uses his gigantic 6-4 in frame to make the tough catches. Has a great knack for punt returning as he led the nation in return yardage last year.
Cons-Does not have elite speed to scare the defense. He also does not break a ton of tackles for much Yac. He runs most of his routes on the sideline so the middle of the field is not his main skill. Not a good special teamer besides punt returning.
Rating-67.5 3rd rated WR 58th rated player (starter) Grade C I am a fan of this kid but i think this is too high. I love my man wolf and trust in him as he will make this work for sure but i thought end of the 1st even in this draft.
1 - 12 (12) Kansas City bylanta Percy Browne WR Notre Dame
Pros-Elite Big play ability and good size at 6 foot 1 just over 200 pounds. He is a #1 WR body that plays more in the slot at Notre Dame. Was a decent route runner in college and plays all 4 downs including special.
Cons-Terrible hands for an elite wide receiver and really struggles to make touch catches. He has no return ability and to put this bluntly he is just not smart. He ran decent routes in college but not sure his route tree transfers to the pros.
Rating-64.5 5th rated WR and 77th rated player (starter) Grade D I know there is this passion for WRs and Browne was the one that throws up my spider sense as something does not seem right.
1 - 13 (13) San Francisco dthompso8 (online) Kyle Tyler ILB Northwestern
Pros-4 year starter and 3 time 1st team all big ten. TYler is good on all three downs and excels in coverage while being and exceptional pass rusher.
Cons-Smaller in stature at just under 6 foot and not a major special teams player. He is a good tackler but does not force many fumbles or make defenders feel the tackle.
Rating-93.6 #1 rated linebacker #6 player on my board (All Pro) Grade A good looking kid that makes plays sideline to sideline. I think he should not have fallen this low and DT got a good steal of a player here.
1 - 14 (14) Baltimore Big A Ike Despirito WR West Virginia
Pros-Good hands and can play tough accross the middle. Not a burner but breaks tackles much more often then you would think. Ike is a good returner on special teams and also probably the most clutch WR in the draft this year.
Cons-great all around receiver but does not excel. He will have just enough speed, run just a good enough route, make the tough catch for just enough yards.
Rating-64.6 6th rated WR and 82nd rated player (starter) Grade B i like this kid and think he will have a sneaky long good career.
1 - 15 (15) Jacksonville Slimmikey Gilbert Keith C Florida
Pros-HUge center at 6 foot 5 and 319 pounds. I think he can play anywhere inside and be a pretty dominant player. He Jabba the huts in the run game and just sits on defenders. Strong kid with a good motor and quick feet.
Cons-Heavily penalized player especially for a Center. Larger then normal kid in a position that is a little deeper then most in this draft.
Rating-67.9 #2 C on my board and 56th player on my board(starter) Grade C I am not a huge proponent of a C this high in the draft unless you have no questions marks. I think a good starter.
1 - 16 (16) Tennessee grimmer Isaac Micallef WR Kansas State
Pros-Another big kid that has great escapability. He is a devoted route runner and works through his craft with great hands. Adequate big play threat with some good wiggle to get some extra Yac.
Cons-Does not make the tough catches. If he is off line on the throw from his route or has to contort he struggles to haul it in. Not a return guy and really just a number 2 wide receiver. Does not play a ton of special teams and would rotate at times at KState.
Rating-59.5 #8th WR on my list and past 100 on my board. (Makes Roster) Grade C The WR picks keep coming despite the talent not really being there. Some teams in the early 2nd or late 1st are going to make out with the talent dropping.
1 - 17 (17) Chicago davehibb Lonnie Peters DE Southern Methodist
Pros-The best overall defensive lineman in this draft. Cloud eater at 6 foot 6 and just over 300 pounds this kid is a tree on defense. Hard hitter and great bull rusher to go along with his technique which he works on all offseason.
Cons-Too good of a prospect? Not sure why he is here this late. Run defense is not going to be as good in the pros as it was in college but still good and stout in the run game. Has a good motor but sometimes sits out a down or two.
Rating-99.7 #1 DE on my board #1 player on my board (Pro Bowler) Grade A+ This is a stud pick this late for sure and Dave makes it look easy lol.
1 - 18 (18) Minnesota w24olfpack Tyler Diaz CB Purdue
Pros-Diaz is all over the field for Purdue against their top rated WRs. He plays every down and loves special teams. He is a tackling machine in the run game and you can stick him in man to man or zone. O yeah did i mention he had 10 picks and has great hands?
Cons-No return ability and i think all the teams knew he would go higher. The reason he got down here is because of the overrated WR run and also the size and stature some teams are worried about.
Rating-90.9 #2 CB on my board #11 player on my board (Great PLayer) Grade A another great pick here. If you can grab the 2nd best coverage corner at pick 18 that is not something that usually happens.
1 - 19 (19) Los Angeles (N) Saw Kris Clemons DE Mississippi State
Pros-Clemons is the guy on the defensive line that plays like a bully because he is stronger then you and also out motors you. His ability to just sustain or control offensive lineman on every play is menacing. He loves special teams and studies tape so you can tell this kid loves football.
Cons-Not as big as some of the power defensive ends. He also will not be as great against the run as he was in college. Not as much of a finesse rusher but has some raw skill that can be tapped into.
Rating-86.1 #2 DE on my board #15 prospect (Great PLayer) Grade A- Grabbing a defensive end that controls the line of scrimmage, plays every down, and does not take a play off is a win at pick 19.
1 - 20 (20) Green Bay Clown Daryl Snyder T Pennsylvania
Pros-Great kid with a good sized 6 foot 5 frame. Physical speciman that can control the line of scrimmage and only allowed 4 sacks in his entire career.
Cons-Much too many penalties and he needs to tone that down in the pros. He seems to really push the boundaries of holding when it is entirely not necessary.
Rating-91.9 #2 OT 9th prospect on my board (All Pro) Grade A- Another stud offensive lineman. His ability at this point in the draft out weighs the intel issues and is a nice cog for the Pack.
1 - 21 (21) Las Vegas SweenDawg72 Diego Clements T Rice
Pros-Strongest overall offensive lineman in this class and a workout warrior. Loves to play every single down and is rarely injured. Rarely penalized and a son of a coach so he "plays the right way"
Cons-He has limited skillset of blocking skills and relies on pure strength a little too much. He is a better run blocker then pass blocker but just good in each catagory.
Rating-91.6 #3 OT and 10th prospect on my board (All Pro) Grade A- sorry for the A- grades here but good players are going lower then they should lol. I was thinking this kid is good but not a top 15 pick more like 15-20 and he goes 21 i like it.
1 - 22 (22) Denver BgBob Malachi Zelch S Middle Tennessee St.
Pros-My scout loved this kid also. He had him Very Underrated and told me to draft him at pick 2. I told him to sit down and shut up. Great college player that had a phenominal combine. He can play corner if needed and has all the coverage skills. Good hands and can return punts. Hell he had 4 interceptions for touchdowns.
Cons-Not as great a run defender as you would like to have in a stud safety but not a bad run defender in any way. Good tackler but not punishing fumble force type of safety.
Rating-87.6 #1 S on my board and #14 player on my board (Great PLayer) Grade A love this kid and the scout loves this kid. I think another value pick all the way. These middle picks have been totally golden.
1 - 23 (23) Miami * shark44 Rich Givens CB Marist
Pros-A world beater when it comes to tackling and has forced more fumbles in college football then anyone the last two years. Good speed and can play elite man to man on most receivers. decent size at just over 6 foot.
Cons-terrible hands and struggles to find and locate the ball once it is in the air. He does seem to get more penalties against him then most corners. Not an elite run defender and slightly below average.
Rating-74.7 #4 CB on my list #31 on my board (Starter) Grade B- I like the kid and sound defender. I listed him as a late 1st round pick so we are close and i cannot knock this pick here.
1 - 24 (24) New York (A) squirrel & quiksand Raymond Ismail DE Washington State
Pros-One of the more under the radar players that i think will have a big time pro career. IN college he was one of the best run defenders. He puts in the work and has incredible finesse as one of the most toolsy pass rushers. He is a hard hitter that forces a ton of fumbles and motors through evey single play.
Cons-May not translate to a 10 in the pros but is an 8 or so at least. Purely lower then you want bull rush but pulls it out when needed. Not a huge special teams guy and slightly older at 24 years old.
Rating-70.6 #4 rated DE 66th rated player on my board (starter) Grade B slightly better then the previous pick and i think a really sneaky under the radar stud player
1 - 25 (25) Washington hildebrandd Perry Douglas S Indiana
Pros-INtense against the run game with great hands. This kid is all over the field and was the captain for 3 years at INdiana. Physical at the point of contact and is elite in M2M skills. Young kid that i think just turned 21 years old.
Cons-Struggles a bit in zone coverage and i notched him at CB myself. He plays special teams but not a world beater with any return game ability.
Rating-71.2 #3 safety and #40 rated on my board (starter) Grade B+ i love this kid's raw skills and even if HIlde keeps him at safety he is good in man and bump coverage
1 - 26 (26) Detroit Sef0r Dashawn Cortez ILB East Central (Okla.)
Pros-Great all around linebacker that i thought would have been gone earlier here too. He blew up the combine and probably had one of the best 2-3 combines of anyone. Love the run defense the most and the ability to cover. I think a pure MLB but could play all positions.
Cons-Gets a little lost in zone just due to intensity at times. Also not a big hitter just a great tackler.
Rating-78.9 #3 LB on my list #21 on my list (starter) Grade A Love this kid great value when all is said and done.
1 - 27 (27) Cincinnati Julio Riddols (online) Leo Dillon G Notre Dame
Pros-41 reps at the combine this kid jumped into the conversation at the combine. He has good pass blocking ability and is quick with his hands on his feet. Smart kid that barely ever makes mistakes.
Cons-Very unpolished run blocker and seems to take some downs off. I think he is only a guard in the pros which dropped him a little off some scouts charts.
Rating-70.6 #4 G on my list #44 on my board (starter) Grade B i have him listed as a late bloomer but not a ton of potential. Strong as an ox but limited in ability.
1 - 28 (28) Atlanta Strubbel94 Jorge LaRiche T Utah
Pros-WE have another monster man who tore up the bench here on back to back picks. Elite road grader that is fun to watch and pancakes dudes 20 yards downfield.
Cons-Has his share of penalties and really struggles to stay on field at times. This kid is huge on the field lol!
Rating-71.1 #4 OT and in the 30s on my board (starter) Grade B+ large ability kid with skills in the right spots.
1 - 29 (29) New England * (5 min) ukpatfan Dakota Tharpe T Ohio State
Pros-3 picks in a row blocking strength galore! ANother workout maniac with his own youtube channel and this kid is as big as it gets eating the sun at 6 foot 8. Long arms and throws people around in the run game.
Cons-A little penalty prone at times and about marginal at pass blocking. He is not bad at anything at that size for sure but is older at 25 years old in this draft.
Rating-68.6 #5 OT and 45 ish on my board (Starter) Grade A- i like this kid more then the board or ratings do for sure. I think a solid Lt for a few years.
1 - 30 (30) Carolina * (5 min) Pip Renaldo Kelley G San Jose State
Pros-Lol ok we hit a common theme and a run for sure. Another powerful kid that assualts defenders in the run game and plays great leverage on his feet
Cons-Smaller in stature at just under 300 pounds. He is a decent pass blocker but still going to give up a few sacks and get a few dumb penalites.
Rating-72.5 #3 G and #41 on my board (starter) Grade A I am running out of explanations as i feel like 3-4 of 4 guys here are copies of each other almost
1 - 31 (31) Buffalo CMax Walt McGregor CB Oregon
Pros-One of the best defensive backs to ever play at Oregon. He is the all time leader in breakups and interceptions for the Ducks. Great overall coverage skills with decent size and long arms.
Cons-Subpar combine really scared people off. He was in the 18th percentile for cornerbacks alone. Not a hard hitter and does not cause many fumbles.
Rating-73.2 #4 CB on my list #35 on my list (starter) Grade A i think exceptional value at this point. I was down talking him as he was in top 15 talks at one point in the draft process.
1 - 32 (32) Atlanta Strubbel94 Ted Arnold C North Carolina A&T
PRos-POrn star on the side Strubbel's man man on the field now. Another complete beast in the weight room that plays and competes every down. He never takes a play off and is on a swivel in the middle passing game.
Cons-Not the elite run blocker but a great one.
Rating-69.1 #1 C on my board like 50th player on my board Grade B+ GOod center that can play the run and pass. Not sexy but decent pick that should be good or better then most centers in the league.
