1.13 RT Alan Clark 32/81 After Pre 2 40/78 +8/-3
This pick came down to deciding between a player I considered one of the best OL players in the draft or WR Tony Grabulis. Clark was our 3rd rated player in the draft class and the fact we have two 12th year tackles on the roster (one franchised) it would have been tough not to take a chance on him. However my HC had Grabulis as underrated.
Clark ended up as the pick as his bars, combines and the need meant I couldn’t pass on him. The question is whether there is any regret passing on Grabulis as we will face him twice a season going forward.
Post EX2 – Going to be one of the best tackles in the league however Grabulis is the real deal and we will regret not taking him for a long time
2.14 FS Dwight Dole 37/56 After Pre 2 42/52 +5/-4
With our star safety in his 9th season and only one left on my board it made the selection of Dole (my 15th rated player) a hard pick to pass on. He is a smart player who picks off passes, covers well in M2M and plays the run, all good reasons to take him. However the selection of Dole meant we passed on Guard Karl Herkel and this may prove again to have been a mistake.
Post EX2 – Looks like a solid pick with excellent INT bar, but nothing more than that, Herkel should have been the pick.
3.13 TE Blake Kanellitsas 36/54 After Pre 2 41/56 +5/+2
I had a list of TE’s under consideration going into the 2nd round and they were all gone by the time our 3rd round pick was up so felt like he had to be taken here with solid bars in pass catching and blocking areas (except for BS).
Post EX2 – Very happy with this pick, no regrets as he looks like being a quality TE who could start but will be great as a 2nd TE behind Newman
4.14 SE Santiago Boyd 32/47 After Pre 2 35/43 +3/-4
Passing on Grabulis was on my mind and the run on WR’s in the 1st round didn’t leave a lot of talent on the board so the big play ability of Boyd meant I felt he was worth taking a risk on. Our HC had him As Scouted so we will see.
Post EX2 – A big play threat that if I had got the 1st round right would have been LT Mickey Rasmussen that would have been the way to go... hindsight is a b***h
5.13 RDT George Sweeney 29/57 After Pre 2 36/59 +7/+2
With Richardson and Edge the only 2 DT’s on the roster I knew I needed to add one. I almost took Sweeney in the 4th round so was more than pleased to grab him here. We needed another body on the DL overall and Sweeney had good bars in run defense and PRT (Can play in a 34 at LDE) with solid endurance so was worth taking a shot on here.
Post EX2 – Other than being a potential conflict with ILB Ty Barlow this was a very good selection.
6.14 LT Kris Fisher 18/38 After Pre 2 22/42 +4/+4
I liked Fisher but this was a shot in the dark, I had planned to grab a RB as it was our top need but had a few I liked and felt one would be available in the 7th round. I again considered that I was unlikely to keep both 12th year tackles so it might be worth taking a shot on another one. He had good combines so thought he could be good in pass protection and a solid run blocker.
Post EX2 – Not sure if he will amount to anything but is a worthwhile development as he could be a good back-up.
7.13 RB Trent Sidharta 44/51 After Pre 2 49/54 +5/+3
He was the top RB left on our board and RB was a top need. His Sole score was a concern but he had solid bars and I like Breakaway speed and Speed to Outside being above the combine score.
Post EX2 – Looks like a steal to me, has good hole recognition, good bars across the board apart from lower than ideal endurance.
Overall one of the best drafts I have had in this league, could have been better but have to be happy with the quality added to the roster.. now if we can just find a No 1 WR...
