Gronk, Brady just too much for the Steelers defense FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the New England Patriots, 30-17, Thursday night in the NFL Kickoff. Pittsburgh's shuffling defense hung with Tom Brady and the Patriots for about a half, but ultimately proved too porous to win as they were routinely beaten by Pats QB Tom Brady and TE Rob Gronkowski. Three quick thoughts for the Steelers loss at Gillette Stadium: 1. Not good enough Missed open field tackles, blown coverages and just generally getting outplayed defined the night for the Steelers defense. And inexperience isn't an excuse. Sure, the unit hasn't played much together as one. But the mistakes made Thursday night were fundamental and to Brady, clearly, unforgivable. 2. The Steelers have a long way to go to hang with a team as good as the Patriots Even with the trades made to shore up the team, they are not anywhere close to being one of the top teams in the AFC 3. The Steelers were outplayed, outcoached, out manned all night No excuses, but the team had no answer for Brady or Gronk. It looked like they were playing pitch and catch between the two of them. Brady started out 11/11 on the night and was just too much for the Steelers. For Steelers Digest this is Kent Brockman

Steelers and Big Ben face massive challenge against the Seahawks this week The Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks will meet at CenturyLink Field on Sunday in one of the biggest games on the Week 12 schedule. They might be two of the NFL’s best teams, and this could be a potential Super Bowl preview as they make a push towards the playoffs. Pittsburgh lost two of their first three games, but they are on a seven-game winning streak and are coming off their bye week. Seattle has only lost one game over the first 10 games of the year, and they’ve looked like the favorite to win it all this year. Las Vegas oddsmakers continue to treat the Seahawks like they are among the top Super Bowl contenders, making them four-point favorites, according to vegasinsider.com. The over/under is 45.5 points. Legion of BoomSeattle’s vaunted “Legion of Boom” has been the biggest reason for their success. Their secondary is the best in football. The unit has struggled at times in 2015, and Ben Roethlisberger needs to prove himself against Seattle's vaunted pass defense on Sunday. The Seahawks have the RZB’s best rushing defenses this season. Overall, this is the best defense in the league and Big Ben's biggest test thus far in 2015. PredictionSeattle has one of the NFL’s best home-field advantages, and they're almost unbeatable at home. Pittsburgh has been on a great streak since stumbling out the gate, but the Hawks present a very stiff challenge. When you throw in the dominance that GM Nick Sims has had over ezlee2. The Steelers will be hard pressed to win this game. Seattle over Pittsburgh, 42-24

Remember that game where my star safety bailed me out Rob? Hold on a sec, that was a superbowl. Which means if not for me and that play, I wouldn't be able to make fun of you for not winning a bowl in 10 years real time.
Worry not my friend. Our safeties suck in this league so you have nothing to worry about.

You know I will bring it up once every 3 months. I can't help myself...even if I have won numerous other bowls, unlike you. I have never been involved with such a devastated opponent. Makes it that much more special

Superman breaks silence about trade to SteelersLatrobe, PA - Newly acquired Steelers QB Cam Newton finally spoke to reporters today about the trade that brought him to the Steel City. When asked how he felt about it the veteran QB told reporters that it took a while for the reality to set in. "In enjoyed my time with the Rams, but the Steelers are one of the premiere organizations in the RZB. I'm excited to play for Trader Rob. I'm confident that he'll put the tools in place for us to bring another championship to the Burgh!"
Newton also stated that he really likes what he sees from his new team. "Nothing against LA, but I never had the feeling that my GM had confidence in me. I can't say how happy I am to be part of a team that wants me here and expects me to win games. It's all about an attitude here. This team, this city, they expect to compete for a championship each year. There's no hoping for the best." Steelers GM Trader Rob reportedly brought Newton in as soon as he arrived in Pittsburgh and told him that this was his team and that he needed to put it on his back. "The expectations are high this year. We believe we can compete in the AFC North and make another trip to the Blitz Bowl," Lee said.

Steelers win AFC Championship, injuries make Blitz Bowl interesting! Pittsburgh, PA- The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship game, but the win did come at a cost as superstar QB Cam Newton suffered a knee injury. The injury puts Newton's status for the big game up in the air. Head Coach Connor Cowdrick told reporters that he is planning to go with backup QB Burt Sperry. "We don't want to risk further injury to Cam. He's been working with our trainers all week, but it doesn't look good at this time. We have confidence in Burt Sperry and we always say that the standard is the standard. Injuries are part of this game and we believe that the next man up needs to step up and do their job."
Cam Newton would not comment when asked about his status. However, backup QB Burt Sperry was candid with reporters when asked about making his first career start in the bowl game. "This is why you play the game. I'd by lying if I said that I won't have butterflies, but once the game begins I'm sure that things will settle down."
Head Coach Connor Cowdrick did confirm that RB Peter Chamberlain and S Asher Gunn will both suit up and play after sitting out with injuries. "PC is still dealing with this injury, but he has tested it out and while he's not 100% I think he will be more than serviceable for us. Plus, we need him there with Burt under center. Having a strong running game is a QBs best friend and even more important when you have a youngster in there."

Should have traded for QB Nicky Webb when you had the chance. He's a winner!

Steelers sign QB Nicky WebbPittsburgh PA, The Pittsburgh Steelers signed QB Nicky Webb to a 2 year deal today. The move may have come a year too late as the team had attempted to trade for him last season. Interestingly enough, the lack of a quality backup caused the team to start an injured Cam Newton in the Blitz Bowl. Steelers GM Trader Rob knew that adding a quality veteran QB was a top priority this offseason. The Steelers outbid their division rival despite the fact that he would have been guaranteed a starting job in Baltimore following the retirement of QB Joe Flacco. When asked why he chose Pittsburgh over Baltimore Webb was very candid. "It's the Steelers. They're one of the great franchises in all of sports. I'm excited to get the chance to wear the Black and Gold." Webb, who has historically worn #7, knows that he can't have that number as it was retired when QB Ben Roethlisberger left the team.

He can wear 13 in honor of that one QB from Pitt that the Steelers passed on in the draft.

Will Billy Knight make his first career start this week? Pittsburgh, Pa- QB Billy Knight split first team reps with Teddy Bridgewater this week. Steelers Head Coach Connor Cowdrick told reporters that there is a 50/50 chance that the team makes a change at the starting QB position after the team lost their third straight game last week. "BK has been working hard since he came here this offseason. He's a mobile QB with a big arm. Many have called him a poor man's Cam Newton. I'm not going to say that, but I will say that we love the athleticism he brings to the team." Veteran QB Teddy Bridgewater refused to comment after practice when asked about the possibility of being benched. Billy Knight on the other hand was very open about his excitement to get the opportunity to start. "I've been working hard and I just want to help this team win anyway I can. If the coaches ask me to play special teams. I'll do it. I just love this game and I'm honored to play for the Steelers." Time will tell if this is a smokescreen for the upcoming game or if they will stay the course with Teddy Bridgewater.
