I've said what Clay was saying several times on this forum about defense. Keep teams under 20 points, you make it easier for your team to win. 9-0 last regular season when we kept teams under 20 points. 2-4-1 if a team scored more than 20 against us. So tired of hearing that LB is the only position that affects both run and pass. Defensive linemen affect both, LBs affect both, SS affects both. And depending on how you use FS, FS will affect both. And if you play against a team that runs outside a LOT... CBs can affect both. Defense is a team sport. The one position I don't worry about too much is FS, but if I can find a good one I'll take him for sure. As for veteran players, I like bars but, more important to me, is stats. A QB with a consistent 90 QBR is a guy I like, whether he's rated 15 or 95. I'd prefer the 15 rated guy, because he'd be cheaper Tanner Briggs... My contention is that, as a 4-3 DE, he is worth a 2nd round pick. You won't find a guy that can rush the passer this well in the 2nd round... making him worth the pick. As a LB, he's not worth a 2nd for sure. So, as usual Joel, you missed the whole point because you are too focused on your point of view and can't see past that point of view. And I say this in my trade block... that he's best as a 4-3 DE. He's too small to be a 3-4 DE. As for his salary... he's definitely overpaid, I don't know how he got paid so much by the previous owners. But he's in the last year of his deal, and he can easily be renegotiated as a LB, then be moved to DE which is going to give him more value than his salary. Since you really want to pick at me... Buning got me more than 2 wins, I'd say 3 wins. Sybrowski was not getting me more wins, because of my gameplan. Again, different teams do different things, making different positions more of less valuable. Look at the difference in my defense and pass rush between 2050 and 2051. Look at the win totals. That was a win-win trade. It helped Atlanta, it helped me. Atlanta probably got 2 more wins thanks to Sybrowski, I got 3 more wins thanks to Buning. I'm happy with the trade, because the way I play the game, Buning was much MUCH more useful to me than Sybrowski. Again, you guys need to get out of the box and see more than your personal opinions. Joel... you love your opinions, and your opinion are simply mainstream and boring. I think my results speak for themselves. Instead of being stuck, think outside the box and understand that actual value and not the mainstream ideas of value. Seriously. Volatility... I like it in late round picks. Late round picks are role players and/or ST guys. It doesn't hurt if they don't get a volatility boom. It CAN make a BIG difference if it does. There are so many similar guys late round, and I will always pick a high volatility guy over a slightly better low volatility guy. It's not going to affect my team all that much taking one over the other, but if there is a volatility boom, it WILL make a difference. It's a small chance, but it's worth it late round when you are looking at 5 players that are very similar. In other rounds, I don't care unless, again, I have two similar guys. Then vol will affect my decision. TE Logan, and also Giangrave... My problem is the Avoid Drops. Last year I lost at least 10 3rd down conversions and TDs because of drops by Giangrave. 121 targets, 16 drops. Don't like that at all. Think Logan will be the same. To me, this is like a QB sack. You don't see it in his stats unless you go looking. 67 catches for 833 yards and 9 TDs. Seems pretty solid for a offense like mine. Then you see 16 drops, and those are drive killers when he's a main target in the red zone and on 3rd down. That's why I wanted to trade him, and I'm happy with that trade as well. Less drops in a TE is like less sacks in a QB when evaluating a TE. At 1.9, I had two guys in my queue... Alcott and Farley. I am getting away from Shire at RT, and needed a new Tackle. Farley was my top rated tackle for a few reasons I won't go into because I don't want to give away team secrets. Alcott was a more sure pick to me, and I don't want to pay Nance what he is asking. So I prefer to get a rookie contract and live with that price for 4 seasons, plus I can sit him behind Buning/Nance this season and he can take over next season after Nance is gone. I would have been happy with either, but I preferred Alcott again, because I think he was more of a sure thing. When I couldn't get Farley, I just moved Anderson to RT and we'll have him starting at RT and Knoll at LT.

You actually do find tons and tons of players later that are equally good in rushing the passer or even in FA for much less money. I'm with you on many things, but on this hill you will die alone my friend

We literally have the best ever player to play fof telling you that Briggs is not worth a 2nd. And multiple others saying the trade of Sybrowski was stupid. Not just because that DE dies soon, but the contract you tied him down to. You can die on that hill. I really hope you keep your team winning, because I guarantee you will disappear when you lose. And I can almost guarantee that at some point you lose, because your off-season is so poor, you won’t keep a good team together… As for mainstream ideas. I would actually say a lot of guys in this league think a lot of what I do is outside the box. If anything you are more mainstream, but also very unwilling to ever accept that you are wrong. Sorry Murph, but you are one hell of a douche, and I’m gonna love it when you suck because we won’t have to hear any more from you ✌️

Murph, I will say you should put less emphasis on what happens and what has happened. The important thing is what was most likely to happen. The dice are a powerful thing. It is a weird concept. It will take a long time before dice even out and the fog disperses.
I also think we are all wrong at some point. No point in entering battles over things none of us are sure about. I can't rank defensive players with any certainty. Anyone who thinks they can is probably delusional. All of us will be off on our understanding a whole bunch, there are so many factors which contribute to results. Trying to say with certainty the magnitude of effects is beyond me.
