I usually don't know this early either. If it wasn't for these videos, I wouldn't have looked at the draft more than to see which positions looked strong and which positions I needed to get guys in free agency or trades BTW, to help you understand me better... EVERY player on my team is a role player. They have a specific role on the team (when it is set up the way I want it)... so I'm generally looking for specific bars and combines to back up the bars. Frederick is a good example of this... He powers my running game, and hopefully he will continue to get around 2000 all purpose yards a season while being rated under 50. This is the key to solid drafting. Too many people get wrapped up in trying to find that hidden creeper that will boom from a 40ish player to a 50ish player and think they struck gold. IMO it's better to develop a system (on offense and defense) and get the bars that make it work and back those bars up with solid combines. I spent years getting wrapped up and disappointed in trying to draft creepers. Find the bars you need...simple as that. I agree with what you said. But thats not really what happend, did it? I love murph, I respect him and I would love to have him back as my gameplanner. But he drafted bums that didn't even provided that bars he would like. Or when he got the bars he wanted he could have gotten a better version or the same player later in the draft. If we take Clevelands 2nd round picks (minus RG Croyle at 2.1) they stink and don't carry any value. I agree that drafting the correct bars for your system is the way to go and not getting blinded by some potential creepers is the correct way. But mastering the when to draft what player at what position and maximizing the value of the draft picks is the artform some GM's need to master to compete with elite GM's like Nick. Picking an ecample from Cleveland again: FS Wilkins: He has good bars and I'm 100% sure that murph likes him and what he brings to the table that said murph invested a 1.21 pick for that player, while players like FS Neil Davis or CB Aiden Fagundez were available deep into the 2nd round and are basically the same player (zone coverage guy) but even better. So yeah the premise "draft for bars" is still correct, however the price that got paid to get those bars were inflated in that case. Thats no critique just an observation. But I'm also 100% sure that murph will get better at this as any GM in this league got better with time and the gap to the top gets closer every time. Overall though I agree with the statement that you should draft players that help your system and not the highest overall. Edit: I picked murph's drafrting skills here just as a pure example. I'm sure you can find those exact same things with me, when you go through my drafts or multiple other GM's for that matter. The skills or the art of drafting is to make those mistakes less often and as you said don't get blinded by creepers and chase those unlikely hidden gems. Just wanted to make this clear, I don't have an agenda against any GM in that league, especially nto against murph.

I wasn’t necessarily talking about any of Murph’s players just trying to provide some insight. A lot of times guys jump the gun on players for several reasons. One they know their target won’t last until their next pick and/or don’t have the time to work out a trade to move up later to snag them. Happens all the time, especially with WRs. GMs jump the gun taking 2nd and 3rd round WRs in the 1st for fear they won’t be around long. I myself did it last season. But all my drafting advice needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I suck at drafting…and the game in general.

So I have no problems with anything you've said here. Simply, I blew the draft last year. How I still made it to 11 wins and an overtime blocked punt away from the Bowl after that... I don't know.

Looking at my draft again, I'm happy with my first four picks. Like Max said, I probably didn't get the best value... but oh well. I have a starting WR, SS, OT (he would be starting if Kroll didn't BOOM like he did last season), and OG with those 1st four picks. The middle rounds were, truthfully, a disaster. I'm happy with all my late round picks (starting with OLB Amberg). I also like C Morton, he'll be a very good backup. K Fikarski I got solely on his combines, and he creeped quite a bit, so I'm content with that pick too. If it didn't work out, I'd still be fine with it as I knew I was, as you said, hoping for a creeper there. I got Amberg who I like, and could start this year if I trade Briggs or next if I don't. I love Alexander, who is a top notch ST guy with a top notch Punishing Hitter bar (as Nick found out in our regular season game). Humphrey is my return man, I don't really care about his high potential rating because I didn't draft him to be a receiver, only a return man and ST player. And Strong had a good first season as a backup RB.
Overall, I know I have to learn more about drafting in the middle rounds, and I have to learn more about how individuals in this league like to draft so I can understand how to find a good mid round value player before the draft starts, instead of trying to sort through the leftovers and spilling my beer when I try to pick up the day old, half eaten pizza slice. : )
I've said it before, I have a lot of holes in my FOF game. I do a lot of research and testing on every aspect I find is a weakness. HOPEFULLY, I'll improve. If not, I'll be churning out 7, 8, or 9 win seasons with subpar teams over and over and over again.

Really cool to see Rylan up on this. Guests are a definite must for you "shady" Brits. I'm watching you buddies... lol
Edit: Look up Oakland in IHOF. Juggs has been able to do amazing things with defense and a running offense.

Stevens is NEVER a guy I'd take in the first round... I look at a guy's combines because my defensive scout sucks. His combine is not near the top of LBs, so he wouldn't get a look in the first round. I need bars AND combines at 1.9. As for DE... I'm happy with my current DEs and I'm not looking for a DE at this point. Were I in the situation you put me in, I will tell you honestly... Thornton would be my pick if I was to pick a linebacker. I have other needs which I grade higher than LB, however, and ultimately I would pick Uzzell and hope I could get him to gain weight and move to SS. I'd also be looking at SS Troy Baron. The thing I dislike about them both is their very poor static bar punishing hitter. Because of this, I would also consider one of the top 2 TEs that are left, after trading Giangrave, or one of my top 2 rated WRs that are left (one of whom isn't even on your first round). Great pick Max! If Thornton made it to the 2nd round, I would have tried to make a move up to get him.

Just gotta point out that Brant Kato LB at Buccs looks awesome. What do you see? I have 43/59. Good pick for 3.6, but not a first rounder IMO. Probably should of been a mid 2nd for me. Run D is okay, everything is okay. All my guys are in the 60's now, even the 3rd round Safety. Don't think any of them see 70, if any had a chance I would bet on the S.

Wish I took him over my bum Whiting.
