Is there any info on the effects of pistol/shotgun/under center usage?
Do any favour particular QB styles? Does SR factor into any of them?
Also...
Play action, do we have any info on it's usage/effectiveness?
Are there diminishing returns? Does it even work in 3rd and long? Or against 3 and 4 deep?
EDIT:
Also, thoughts on extra pass protection?
Does anyone actually take notice of this? Does it actually work? If you keep TEs and RBs in to block, don't the defenders assigned to cover them blitz?

The help file says in the shotgun you get less sacks but it is at the detriment of the running game!

I have found that when creating my playbook to fit my scheme that certain formations will change from best to solid to good for a certain scheme based on whether the QB is in pistol, shotgun or under center. So in that regard, where the QB is can make certain plays better or more effective for your offensive scheme.
For play action, I think it's very effective in the game plan. I used a heavy PA offense in TFL and I've won two of the last three bowls. The offense has been very productive using that game plan. It helps having a big threat at RB, which I have over there. So in my experience, PA does stuff.

I don't know if extra pass blocking is really doing anything, but it makes a lot of plays fit my balanced offensive sheme better and that alone makes my team perform slightly better.

It all matters when getting plays optimized for specific styles. Air Coryell likes shotgun and wants all receivers in the pattern (i.e., no extra protection). Even on running plays in certain formations it favors shotgun. Now, does it work? Not sure. I've created a fairly optimized playbook (all plays Solid or better for AC) and my offenses still stink but that's probably more a personnel issue at present.
