I’m confused by the excitement... it’s basically everything you could do before. Rex to a % and add and delete a few plays in scenario’s to what you like...
I don’t see the offensive stuff as an improvement

Well, technically I haven't really dug in, but the idea that you can choose a number of plays targeting specific receivers without having to search through a gameplan seems positive to me. Also, DRAG AND DROP!!

I don’t see the offensive stuff as an improvement This gives quick positional control of individuals. Rex would just randomly generate plays, not throw to your best guys or blitz your guys who can actually blitz. You also couldn't control passing distances. Now you have a much finer control. So the majority will be excited by that. You could get to that in the past, but it was a pain in the ass and it took time.

I think these are all great improvements for the amazing cost of FREE! You gotta give Jim mad props on this one. IMO, this was ALL him and what makes him friggin' amazing. Plus, let's not forget that they said FOF9 is still some time away from release. I think this is to get things done the right way and not just rush a shoddy product out. Honestly, I can't see Jim letting this hit the market without MP. I also believe he'll find a way to port existing leagues over. Remember, this game is his life's work. I'm sure he had language in his deal that gave him creative control.

Thing is he did rush 8. It could of been a lot better. I still have no opinion. Who knows what the future brings.

I had the TC stage in GML yesterday, so got to play around with the playbook creation. It was helpful, but definitely not perfect. For instance I tried to use "Guided Creation" to make 20 run plays up the middle. Had it set to pick plays that were obviously middle runs (set sliders all the way to left for run right and run left, and all the way to right for run middle), with it allowing plays to be made in numerous formations (2FB and/or multiple TE and/or 3WR's). I ended up with 13 middle runs and 7 that were either 20, 21, 26 or 27.
There also doesn't seem to be a way to force it to use 104 or 005 formations. No matter what I did with the guided creation sliders, it would not create plays in those formations.
Overall though, if you're interested in totally revamping your playbook, the new options do provide a good amount of time savings.

From Jim on the OOTP forum "You can't edit existing plays in-season (maybe there's a case for allowing that, but tracking allowable changes would become much more difficult)."
So basically if we delete a play we get a random one on place of it, well that's pointless!

-for me its a amazing piece of work, I was really hamstrung by this fof8, I couldn't work the gameplan on offense. No matter what I did we were tied to the offensive coordinator. this is no longer the case.

I don’t see the offensive stuff as an improvement It is a way more streamlined way to do the things that you did before. I can create specific types of plays now. If I want to scheme 25 short passes to my TE then I can. If I want to scheme 30 runs to the left, I can. If I want to run exclusively out of the pistol and shotgun I can, and all at the click of a button. I can make a playbook quickly without 20 QB runs being created.. Etc. Then when it comes time to game plan, I can put together a game plan that does what I want without relying on Rex to get the ball to the guys I want to get it to. This stuff would take hours before, not I can do it in 5 minutes.

I love it, thought I broke it a few times and threw 220 passes to my TE1 and 60 to the rest lol. I did choose to create more plays with TE1 in mind and then focused my passing his way...it worked
I'm going to try and create multi TE plays, then put my best TE1 into the TE2 slot (T) and target most of my passes to TE2 and see how that goes. I should have the worst player covering him
Also going to try putting my best WR into the slot (R) and throw more plays his way

Shit, I'm actually going to have to fire FOF up and give it a look.

Did you get a lot of familiars doing g that? I would think that should be an outcome if you target one guy all game.

I haven't touched FOF8 since prior to the update but if we can do this, then that's huge. Especially as Air Coryell sucks balls!

Very good point, I didn't look in the game logs but my SP test game QBs were throwing for 20+ TDs and under 10 INTs, while TE1 was getting around 130 targets (WR1 and WR2 also getting 130 targets) and all crossed 1000 yards. I will look for familiars.

So it seems something screwy is going. On the defensive side of the ball at least. A few games back there was discussion of an export not going through. My export went through, and it looks exactly as it was intended. Only my gameplan was completely ignored, and the AI called its own defense. Having lost today I always try and learn from it and looked over the logs closely, so only just noticed this. When I go back it appears it happened against the Rams too.
I will upload a screen shot in a bit.
