1.19 TE Troy Rivera, Augustana, 47% developed, 6'4" 255 lbs. 21 yrs. old
LFA: 40/69
PTC: 46/70 (+6/+1)
PS2: 47/75 (+1/+5)
Interview: U
We were hoping a stud RB would fall to us here, but the studs were taken early. Rivera is a stud TE who should take over for our aging Nedney sooner rather than later.
Rivera is young, explosive, and intelligent. So far, so good. Really surprised how far Rivera slid in the draft.
Nice little bump for Rivera. Rivera has the potential to be the best TE in the league. Great steal this late in the 1st.
2.18 RB Archie Strickland, Kansas, 72% developed, 5'10" 215 lbs. 24 yrs. old
LFA: 49/60
PTC: 51/60 (+2/0)
PS2: 52/56 (+1/-4)
Interview: U
Strickland is not the normal build for RB that I usually draft, but we got a good interview, and he looks better at first glance than I was expecting.
Looking like Strickland is our likely week 1 starting RB. He will double time as an elite punt returner.
Small drop, but Strickland still looks like our week 1 starter and our starting RB for the next few seasons.
3.17 DT Claude Heath, Wyoming, 26% developed, 6'3" 306 lbs. 21 yrs. old
LFA: 22/65
PTC: 28/62 (+6/-3)
PS2: 28/60 (0/-2)
Interview: AS
We switched to a 4-3 front this offseason, so we need to build more depth at DT. Heath has good talent on the interior. Unfortunately, his endurance will keep him in a rotational role.
Heath will probably need a year or two before he's ready to start, but he may see decent playing time given our lack of depth at DT.
Heath has useful abilities that should get him plenty of playing time, but his endurance will keep him in a rotational role instead of an outright starter.
4.16 RB Cody Gaston, Miami, 65% developed, 5'10" 209 lbs. 22 yrs. old
LFA: 35/49
PTC: 38/46 (+3/-3)
PS2: 37/43 (-1/-3)
Interview: H2R
4 seasons ago I drafted 2 RBs who didn't really play out. This season, our 2 RBs look a bit better. Gaston looks like a high-quality backup.
Gaston has decent looking rushing bars, but he is probably in a tight competition for the final RB roster spot.
Nothing too flashy about Gaston, but looks like he won the #3 RB spot and could stick around for a few seasons.
5.15 WR Brett Cundiff, Pittsburg St., 53% developed, 5'10" 191 lbs. 21 yrs. old
LFA: 30/48
PTC: 33/47 (+3/-1)
PS2: 32/42 (-1/-5)
Depth at WR is usually valuable. Cundiff is a fast WR who shows some ability to create space.
I have a bad feeling Cundiff is overrated. Still holding out hope for a pop. High risk vs reward pick.
A little disappointed Cundiff didn't pop, but he should still slot into our #4 WR role and give us an outlet with big play potential.
5.26 WR Reuben Hank, Brown, 23% developed, 6'0" 197 lbs. 22 yrs. old
LFA: 20/45
PTC: 24/44 (+4/-1)
PS2: 24/42 (0/-2)
Hank has a knack for finding space in a defense and the speed to turn any play into a TD. Another depth piece.
Hank looks as expected so far. A decent route runner with next level speed.
Hank looks about the same as when he was drafted. Decent route runner who can find the endzone. Good guy to have in case of injury.
6.14 TE Carter Richmond, Mississippi St., 46% developed, 6'4" 252 lbs. 20 yrs. old
LFA: 24/46
PTC: 26/44 (+2/-2)
PS2: 26/43 (0/-1)
Richmond is one of the youngest players available in the draft. Reasonable development at Richmond's age is an oddity, so maybe he can show more as he develops.
Richmond looks like a decent backup TE. He could get some early playing time as a special teamer.
Rivera and Nedney will eat up basically all of our TE reps, so Richmond is just insurance in case one of them goes down.
7.13 OLB/DE Kris Mathews, Ole Miss, 68% developed, 6'2" 266 lbs. 23 yrs. old
LFA: 19/39
PTC: 24/37 (+5/-2)
PS2: 24/33 (0/-4)
Mathews is an intriguing prospect at the end of the draft. At 266 lbs., his 4.43 40 time was faster than the WRs I drafted. A unique prospect might give him more value on the DL than at LB.
Wasn't sure what we were going to get from Mathews. Will need to pop if he is to earn a roster spot.
Worth the risk in the 7th, but I doubt Mathews will make the final roster.
