Special thanks to Simon for making this happen and to Zach for taking the time to share some more nuggets for us on how to construct a roster in FOF.

Another great video guys! Really interesting stuff, flipped my thinking on a few things. Especially the part about penalties being worse for passing offenses because they lead to INTs. I had always thought penalties were more acceptable for a passing team because they had the "firepower" to overcome them, where a running team just couldn't climb out of that deep hole.

great that you enjoyed -- a good running team can get 7.5 ypc on average on 2nd and long. after the 8.3 patch, a great passing team can get 6.5ypa on 2nd and long. the number was not much higher before the patch. i think the engine reproduces well the fact that the defense is mostly expecting a pass on 2nd and long, so you can benefit from running in that situation.
for a passing team, you have to avoid 2nd and long at all costs, unless you can also run the ball in that situation. this is one of the offensive situations when a scrambling qb can give you an edge, since a scramble will also get you around 7.5 ypc. the problem is that the average scramble frequency is around 10% on 2nd and long, so you cannot rely on that alone. the top scrambling qb i've ever had would push the scrambling frequency up to 25%, which then becomes substantial in keeping drives alive.

I don't know about anyone else but learning this stuff and listening to Zach just gives me a bit more of a buzz to play, try news things etc. I think it's brilliant Zach shares!

Rob's brain attempting to think of positions on defense: gotta have 1-2 WRs, oh woops I mean running b--
That moment cracked me up.
The rest of it was great and helpful, thanks to everyone for the time taken and knowledge shared.

That's always been a defensive tenet for my teams. Win first down For Passive offenses, lets say best case - they pass 70% of the time at a 65% offensive clip- so a 45% first down success rate - coin flip Running plays - if you can stop them to 3 yards or less - they are now facing 2nd and 7-10 on second down. Over the length of the field, it adds up. You MUST get off the field on 3rd down though - which is my key defensive stat, behind Pass Completion % and Yards per carry on rush. IF I can keep 3rd down % in the 30's, Pass completions mid 50% and YPC below 3.7 - my defense usually are top 10. Adding ST that keep you in top 10 in returns and returns allowed - that gives you two out of the 3 phases of the game. Offensively - Still lost (Don't have the time).

Include Personality Profiles and Team Chemistry You can choose to use personality profiles and team chemistry in a new career. With this option turned off, team chemistry will not be shown on the team rosters and will not affect game play. Team chemistry sets up a system where thereís a leader at each position group. That leader is then subject to affinities or conflicts with the rest of the players on your team in that group. Affinities may help everyone in that group perform better. Conflicts may have the opposite effect. In addition, some players are given a Red Flag label. They may have a very negative effect on team chemistry. Or they may not. Itís up to you to study your teamís on-field performance and make that determination on your own. www.solecismic.com/support/FOF2007PlayerGuide.pdf

Use the No Special Teams button to designate that a player should not be used to fill out special teams - punt returns and punt coverage, kick returns and kick coverage. This is not a guarantee that the player won't be used. For instance, if you have only four linebackers on your active roster, it will be very difficult to keep a linebacker off of special teams. But it will help a lot. Important: a playerís setting for special teams use is in the information field. The text of this button shows what that status will change to if clicked.

Each scouting staff is rated for their ability to scout players at each position. The ratings are most accurate for players in positions where the scouts are considered "Excellent." The ratings may not be very accurate where scouts are considered "Poor." In those cases, you might have to rely more on a player's statistics than the scouting reports.

this is when things get interesting -- he's arguably the best qb in rzb and has a lot of value, i wouldn't just cut him lol. you have an ultra valuable asset in a league with few stud qbs and he can certainly win a couple bowls, no question. but if the red flag bites, there will be effects as well. in the end it depends on the alternative for you vs herrington's performance. i'd say that unless you are sure you can get another qb of similar age that plays at a similar level, it's a no brainer to keep him. but if you were offered a swap with barber, i'd jump at that.
