If i had to label this draft she would be the top and and then who else goes where is going to be neat. I think everyone knew the QB, QB, WR was going despite it probably being a bad pick for Pitt in the long run
Ok let's look at our picks-
1 - 1 (1) Tennessee grimmer (online) Alexander Roberson QB Purdue
Pros-An incredible quarterback with all the tools to be one of the greats. He has no limitations with arm strength and can make every throw. He started all three years at Purdue and was the best player in the country for all three years. He took home the Heisman this year with some gaudy numbers as he threw 3900 yards 41 tds and only threw 2 picks. He has an incredible talent at QB to make players around him better and really turns average into a golden boy at WR. I can see this kid being better then any QB drafted the last few years with his skillset.
Cons-He was never really tested in 2 minute drills as the team ran such a fast paced offensive spread that they were almost always up in games. He is not a scrambler at all and i put it as a con but it helps him at times because he eludes the rush better then anyone and stays in the pocket to make the tough throws.
Rating-113.5 All pro Elite player- Estimated 80 rated superstar if all falls into place
Grade A+ I think this kid is tested and has shown he has the good and is as RZB ready as anyone in this draft and a little more developed
1 - 2 (2) Denver Hooper J.J. Hill QB Cincinnati
Pros-Probably the highest upside of any quarterback in this year's draft. His floor is a little lower as his is only 18% developed. In college they ran a run and shoot spread offense that consisted of 6 YPC short and screen passes. He is the most talented QB i have ever seen at both of those combined. He has the arm to make all of the other throws to make him an elite talent. His accuracy on passes throws Wrs open at times.
Cons-His timing is not great as Cinci did not have an elite WR in the bunch and plays called for a spot with less slants and more outs and ins. He is not much of a scrambler but has the ability and i think he will be better at it in the pros.
Rating-119.7 All Pro Elite player- Estimated 80 rated superstar if all falls into place
Grade A+ I am sure Hooper was standing at pick 2 with two elite Qbs there and just sat on his hands until he figured out which one was going to fall to him.
1 - 3 (3) Pittsburgh ezlee2 Dalton Dunn WR Central Arkansas
Pros-Bp guy that only played 1 year at Central Arkanas. DD Has elite speed that is uncoverable and has a huge frame at 6 foot 3 inches. Some scouts think he is one of the best players in this draft based on talent. He looks the part and had 3 300 yard receiving games in his 14 career starts. Dalton runs crisp routes and has good hands.
Cons-He really does not play much in the return game. He is coming from a small school and the volatility(90) has to be a little scary on him. He also has a major outlier in 8 bench press reps at the combine where he shows he has power in game it did not show up in the weight room. Does that mean he is better because of the lower competition? I had a few scouts tell me he is not even a top ten pick as they thought he was going to bust in the pros.
Rating-89.2 Good player Starter Estimated 62 rated player if all falls into place(Man that seems low in my DA but the combines pull him back i guess)
Grade-A I think Dunn was going to go in the top 10 but he is not a minor risk but 30/70 chance.
1 - 4 (4) Green Bay Clown (online) Trenton Blades QB Duke
Pros-Blades has a really strong sense in the pocket and this kid is as smart as they come. You have a game manager on your hands in the best way possible as his 1 year as a starter was nothing exciting but he really shined in pro days and at the combine. He has a decent arm where it will not hurt him in RZB. Blades excelled most in 2 minute drills and reading defense in the offseason. He started when the NCAA season ended as a 2nd or 3rd round pick and he ends up in the top 5 of the draft!
Cons-T Blades has an average arm so he will not scare you with a cannon. He is awful when it comes to timing with receivers. He does not scramble much as he chooses to stay in the pocket more.
Rating-87.1 Good Player Starter Estimated 62 rated player if all falls into place.
Grade B+ I mean i wanted to go higher here but an average QB with SR and a good avoid AI should be worthy of a top 5 pick
1 - 5 (5) Atlanta bighouserulez (online) Matthew Manning RB Idaho State
Pros-Great speed and breaks the corner contain with ease. M&M reads the hole better then any other back we have in this year's draft and this kid only played one year of college football. He was the #1 rated prospect by most scouts all season. Manning is great out of the backfield and has no endurance issues. He is the type of kid you can plug and play on all downs and very reliable.
Cons-Played a lesser competition but was a man amongst boys on the field. He does not have elite wiggle but also is so quick to the hole it does not matter. His endurance is not an issue but he is not a 400 carry guy. His 90 vol makes you wonder if he holds up at the net level
Rating-125.3 All Star/Great Player Estimated 72 rated if all falls into place
Grade A+ This is the type of player that can be built around. I like this kid and is as good as you can ask for at pick 5.
1 - 6 (6) Jacksonville Sef0r Cody Watkins WR Temple
Pros-26th ranked kid on my board but the positional players are really taking up these picks as we have QB QB QB RB WR WR in 6 picks. This draft is not as talented at the skill position to have that many go that high or the defensive players that much less! OK let's look at Cody. He reminds me of San Fran's pick last year he looks the part. He has great speed at 4.33 and an 80 rated BP bar and nice size at 6 foot 1 and 201 pounds. He has wiggle to cross defenders in the open field and runs great routes. He played in a run first system at temple but was the first 1000 yard wide receiver there in almost 20 years.
Cons-Not an intangible guy as in he will alligator arms across the middle and has ok hands not great hands. He would beat defenders so badly in the open field or with his pure speed his catches were chest catches and sparingly used his hands. He does not have any return ability. His vol (96) was the scariest thing for me plus he is one of the older Wrs in the top of the class at 23.
Rating-64 Good player Starter 61 rated if all falls into place
Grade A I had this kid pegged around my spot at 11 before we moved up. I think he is a really good play maker that was lost in the Qb heavy picks.
1 - 7 (7) Philadelphia thefatcat Conner Breese CB Alabama - Birmingham
Pros-My fifth player on my board and wow the best defensive player sneaking out at pick number 7 is a nice nifty value. Breese has good size at 5'11 inches and 192 pounds. He is the best park in an island cover corner in this draft. He can play zone and read the Qbs eyes, or play m2m and bait the throws, or play at the line and be physical at the point of attack. His hands are as close to a wide receiver i have reviewed at corner in a long time. He hurts people when he tackles them and to add to everything he is a very good kick returner.
Cons-He plays 100% all the time and does wear himself down on endurance do to his unstoppable motor on the field. He is not asked to do a lot in the run game so his run defense is very marginal.
Rating-85 Starter Good Player 71 rated if all falls into place
Grade A+ I mean before the draft this probably was in the back of FC's head but doubted he would slip this far.
1 - 8 (8) New England ukpatfan J.T. Briggs G Eastern Michigan
Pros-Stud road grading Guard that was a 3 time all american and a stand out at the senior bowl. JT was the best lineman coming out of high school and arguably the best lineman this year. He blew up the combine and pro days solidiying his draft status and also scored one of the highest scores on the sole test this year.
Cons-He is a guard. That is all i have. It is rough to pay and pick a guard in the top 8.
Rating-88 Starter good player 78 rated if all falls into place
Grade A- I love the kid and i think he is going to make sandwiches with defensive lineman but i had about 6 other positions that were close to as good and probably should have been picked before.
1 - 9 (9) Seattle Nick Jace Banks ILB Iowa State
Pros-This kid is all over the field as he is a 3 down player that runs sidelines to sideline and can cover Te or slot Wrs. He is a run stuffing monster and he knocks people back and punishes ball carriers. This kid is the total package. He had combines and played like it all through his career so i am convinced he is going to be monster.
Cons-Not the smartest player in the playbook and will most likely not make the calls in Seattle(As Hammer does all of those we know ) . He also is a power pass rusher and lacks some of the basic spin and slash pass rush moves but still gets to the passer.
Rating-91 rated player Starter All Pro type 74 rated if all works out.
Grade A Just a great linebacker that will put in solid numbers in Seattle for 12 years
1 - 10 (10) Miami * Gauss Terrell Sellers WR Kansas State
Pros-The fastest player in this year's draft. He has game speed that is illmeasurable and is a blur against opposing offenses. He had 19 plays of over 40 yards last year at KSU and 40 40 yard plays in his career. Sellers instantly makes a team have to be honest against the offense with his chance to break any play.
Cons-Terrell is a rough route runner and struggles to really get the ball with consistancy. He may have 10 targets in one game and catch 5 for 100 or have 2 targets in a day for 60. He does not have much of a ceiling as his talent steps into the field and he is what you see here.
Rating-64 rating Good/Average player 58 rated if all works out
Grade A I will never argue a WR and speed. This kid steps into RZB with talent to break a play at any time and you have to give that a boost in ratings.
1.11 1 - 11 (11) Washington hildebrand Wyatt Joens RB Miami Florida
Pros-Hilde traded down 6 spots and grabbed 2 2nd rounders and this kid. Let's take a look at Joens and the first thing that sticks out to me is his ability to read and react to the offensive line and the holes produced. He is a fast straight line runner that competes with some of the fastest players in this draft. He really is somewhat smallish at 5 foot 8 and struggles to pound the ball between the tackles at times. He seems more of a 3rd down back and zone runner on tape he broke off most of his long runs via pistol or spread. He is a great 3rd down pass blocking back and a good receiver.
Cons-We talked about his struggles to move the pile between the tackles and he does not have the lateral speed to get the edge on average defensive ends or linebackers. He does not have any return ability.
Rating-55 rated good player makes roster 52 rated if all works out
Grade B I like the kid somewhat. He has 0 StO and that will hold true. I think a good player not a top 11 in this draft player as we have a slight reach
1 - 12 (12) Tennessee grimmer Marvin Galland ILB Washington State
Pros-Top ten overall player on my chart and i would say this kid is one of the best 3 defensive players in the draft. He is elite in run defense recording 20 tackles in 4 separate games this year. He also excels in coverage and is good in the pass rush. Really this kid can do it all.
Cons-Did not play a ton of M2M coverage at Wash State but can cover on pure talent. A refined tackler but not a scary hitter. A good pass rusher and more of a physical bull rush less agility speed moves on the pass rush.
Rating-72 Starter/Good Player
Grade A I really like the kid he is sound all over. He is a nice boring pick at 12 but for 10 plus years you have a reliable tackling machine that can cover.
1 - 13 (13) Arizona Jeremy Frank Edwards S Iowa State
Pros-Frank has incredible hands as he had 37 interceptions in his career. They only threw the ball on his half od the field an average of 4 times a game and he still made plays on the ball. He is great against the run and very good with his hands and feet in coverage. He can play at the line or sit in a zone and play off his instincts.
Cons-Not the best at reading the play before the snap and does not really hit hard enough to scare anyone on offense.
Rating-84 Starter All Pro I have 72 rated if all works out.
Grade-A I love the kid as he was my #1 target when i was sitting at pick 11. He will instantly improve a defense from day one.
1 - 14 (14) Jacksonville * (10 min) Sef0r Brady McDonald TE Washington
Pros- A physical player at the line of scrimmage. He is a difference maker in the run game and blocking in general. He does not just block people as he was rated as an offensive lineman at Washington based on his pancake blocks. He also has great wiggle in the open field where he will get the extra YAC that you really do not see from a TE usually. He an contort his body to make almost any catch and really has speed enough to beat most backers on most routes.
Cons-Not the best route runner but is decent enough to be a difference maker.
Rating-78 Starter All pro 68 rated if all works out
Grade A- I like him as he is the best TE in the class. He is probably not as elite a WR as the top TEs in the league due to his RR but he is a better blocker.
1 - 15 (15) Cleveland Coldheat007 (online) Kent Osborne T Alabama
Pros-My DA program has him rated as the highest player in this year's draft so #1 on my big board. He has a potential rating of 132.4 Which is HOF type of grades. OK let's take a look at Osborne. He crushes people in the run game. He is so strong that he can block two people on the same play almost like an adult playing with kids. He is tremendous feet where pass blocking is not a problem.
Cons-Great pass blocker but his 6 foot 5 frame sometimes leaves him to quicker pass rushers getting the leverage under him.
Rating-94 All Pro/HOF 78 Rated if all works out
Grade A+ A great value for a stud RT. I think he may be one of the best in the league once he gets the RZB level of competition down.
1 - 16 (16) Tampa Bay WilleB Amir Steven QB California
Pros-This kid looks the part and puts up the numbers each year at Cal. Scouts love his ability to be good at everything. He was the #1 prospect that came out of Oregon in high school and has done nothing but held high praise. He is a neat player as he makes the throws and anticipates the breaks from his receivers. He is especially good at intermediate routes and reading the defense.
Cons- Not a great avoid interception player as he is a 1.5 to 1 in his college career. Not the greatest arm but can make most of the throws. He does struggle on short passes but is great on screens if you can figure that one out. Amir looks like a good athlete but rarely scrambles and leaves the pocket.
Rating-61 Good Player Starter 56 rated if all worked out
Grade-A- i know it is not sexy and the kid will have issues with interceptions but he can start in the league. He is just better then average.
1 - 17 (17) Baltimore BigA Matt Schulman CB South Carolina
Pros-I had him rated really high but i am not as sold as my rating if that makes sense. He is my 14th player on my board and i think he is a really good player. He is great in zone and Bump sticking WRs at the line and killing the reads. He is also an excellent kick returner. This kid does not take a player off as he was the main gunner for the Gamecocks also!
Cons-Not a great run stuffer but unless you playing Seattle that usually does not matter. He is just average at reading the offense and the quarterbacks eyes and his hands are just better then ok as he only had 4 interceptions in his career.
Rating-76.8 Starter/All Pro 56 rated if all works out.
Grade A+ For the value at pick 17 you have a solid corner, special teamer, and kick returner.
1 - 18 (18) New Orleans Red Zone Kris Sweeney DE Air Force
Pros-Sweeney is a little favorite of mine in this draft. He is a big kid and really athletic. They played him at linebacker in college but it seems like teams worked him as a defensive end for RZB. Pretty good instincts and a nice bull rush as he is strong at the point of attack. He has some speed moves to offset the pass rushing moves and this kid is like mighty mouse in a big body as he will play every down and up and down the field on every play never giving up.
Cons-He struggles some in coverage in college which is why teams are putting him at DE. He is not an elite rusher or run defender he is just solid. He does not have much of a ceiling but his floor is extremely low.
Rating-72 Starter All Pro 61 rated if all works out
Grade B+ I think a good pick but just a solid average DE or LB here.
1 - 19 (19) Pittsburgh ezlee2 Damon Kramer G Army
Pros-A polished all around offensive lineman that was a 3 time all american. He played at Army and they ran on his side of the field or pulled him on what seems like every single play. He has really quick feet for a player that was in a run dominated offense. He plays every down and is physical when he gets his hands on the defenders.
Cons-Run blocking is good but relies on his body and less technique to pull off the blocks. It made him one of the best lineman in college football but he has to be more technique driven in the big leagues.
Rating-84.1 All Pro/HOF 74 rated if all works out.
Grade A Stud player that was my 5th player on the board picked at 19.
1 - 20 (20) Tampa Bay WilleB Lonnie Donaldson RB Arizona
Pros-This kid out of Arizona burst onto the scene as he is such a threat in the open field. He is not an elite runner but even tried out for some teams at receiver. He has elite speed to run past defenders and the wiggle to make them miss. He is one of the best out of the backfield running backs i have seen come out in a long time. This kid can really fly and he is almost uncoverable for linebackers 1 on 1.
Cons-He is a wiggle type of guy who makes a move and cuts. He does not do well on sweeps and 8 or 9 runs. He is not going to move the pile on the inside and sometimes he will avoid the hole or miss it completely as he is a very freelanced type of back.
Rating-58.7 Good Player Starter 49 rated if all works out
Grade B+ I like the kid but higher then i really thought he would go. It will be neat is he a WR for Willie or a 3rd down back.....or a #1 back would be interesting.
1 - 21 (21) Detroit strapalongenon84 Emmitt Craig S Southern California
Pros-Punishing hitter that decapitates receivers over the middle. He was kicked out of 5 games in his career do to hard hits. He Is a really good coverage guy in any coverage. He also is tough against the run and has great hands.
Cons-He is less adapt at reading the pre play line of scrimmage and does not work much on film. HIs endurance is rough but he is usable.
Rating-68.6 Good PLayer 54 rated if all works out.
Grade A+ it think this kid will excel in RZB with his style. This is one of my favorite picks as i thought he would be gone before pick 20.
1 - 22 (22) New York (A) * (5 min) pressbox Jumbo Cortez T Tulsa
Pros-my 9th player on my board and a worker and a technical guy always wanting to improve his blocking. Great all around blocker with sound hands and quick feet.
Cons-Not as strong as you would like from a top 10 player at offensive lineman but great value here at 22. He really struggled on the sole test grading out just below the average.
Rating-76.2 70 rated kid if all works out
Grade A+ A really good middle 20s pick value when you get a stud offensive tackle.
1 - 23 (23) Denver * Hooper Scottie Rivers WR Georgia Tech
Pros-Good route runner that is excellent in the open field. Scottie is a smart receiver in that he knows the downs and distances and makes the play to move the chains. He is a bit like Gumby at times the way he moves his body to contort himself to make circus catches.
Cons-He does drop some easy balls in his hands when anticipating his move before catching the ball. He is not a special teamer and rarely runs routes accross the middle of the field.
Rating-62.1 53 rated kid if it all works out
Grade B+ I liked the kid and about where i thought he would go. He is really a number 2 and i think a solid but not great WR when his career is over.
1 - 24 (24) Minnesota Strubbel94 Rico Sharp QB West Alabama
Pros-This kid shot up the boards from the Senior Bowl and his offseason workouts. I had a few scouts think he would go in the top 20 picks. We love his ability to avoid the rush and his ability to scramble. He has a strong arm and the ability to really connect with WRs in and out of breaks.
Cons-Struggled at a little school with interceptions leading the nation in that catagory two years in a row and 47 total in his career. He does not throw a ton of short passes as he is always looking to go big or go home. He is not ideal in accuracy but decent enough.
Rating-49.5 Starter 48 rated kid if all works out.
Grade B I know he was worth a shot at QB which is hard to get youth but i didn't want to risk a pick on him myself with that avoid AI.
1 - 25 (25) Tennessee * (10 min) grimmer Donnell Upshaw C Washington State
Pros-Upshaw is a throw back Center. He is a big kid and a mauler at the point of attack. I like that when he got his hands on larger DTs and NTs that he would move them and open up holes. His pass blocking is premiere as we had him work a few days at G and was one of the best pass Pro guys out there.
Cons-His endurance is an issue at times he takes himself out.
Rating-61.7 Good Player 64 rated if all works out.
Grade B+ I love the kid i think a few other guys are more worthy and it is hard to not feel the C does not hold as much weight in value
1 - 26 (26) Philadelphia * thefatcat D.J. Greer T Georgia Tech
Pros-Despite loving the last pick i was really amazed that Greer went after Upshaw. Greer plays RT which is a bigger role on teams and think Greer is better in every catagory.
Cons-I think he is slightly overrated from college where he was touted as the best OL in college. He showed flashes at the combine and pro days but shows that he struggles on some plays on tape.
Rating-72.7 Starter/Good Player 65 Rated if all works out
Grade A+ I think an outstanding value on a player that somehow slipped to 26 and i never would have thunk!
1 - 27 (27) Houston schwantz Neal Bessette ILB UCLA
Pros-This guy is an interesting kid. He played all over the field at UCLA and led the team in sacks, interceptions, and forced fumbles. He really plays sidelines to sideline on every play. He showed up at the combine with a chip on his shoulder and left as one of the premiere all around linebackers. His swim move and spin moves are almost unblockable as he is also such a punishing power rusher.
Cons-Not great at identifying a play pre snap and lives off his instincts at times. He is a decent run stopper but not elite. He gets himself in the right spots by accident almost and then makes a play and i want to see if that continues in the pros.
Rating-61.2 Good Player Starter 60 56 rated kid if all works out
Grade A- If i draft this kid i put him at WLB on my 3-4 and let him wreak havoc on every play
1 - 28 (28) Jacksonville Sef0r Josiah Bixler CB Miami Florida
Pros-Josiah is a ball hawk and has incredible hands. As everyone saw in the national championship game, he played wide receiver and played over 70 played over 70 plays on offense and defense. Great with his hands at the line of scrimmage but also understands the zone and man to man fundamentals. He plays the run very well and really plays every down.
Cons-Another player that is not great on pre snap reads and gametape. His run defense is ok and relies a little too much on his college speed to recover and i think he will be slightly less effective in the pros.
Rating-67.6 Good player/Starter 61 rated kid if all works out
Grade A+ I love this kid and his ability to cover. He is slightly smaller then ideal but great hands and can cover almost anyone is a major plus
1 - 29 (29) New England ukpatfan Dave Doyle G Maryland
Pros-There is no player stronger in the weight room then DD. He is a weight room kid that puts in the time and is a good leader in the locker room. He was one of the best guards in the ncaa for his career as he is so strong.
Cons-I think he struggles a little at the next level and his hands are just ok with defensive lineman swatting them off more then i am happy with. He tries to use his body to shield off defenders when he has such a strong body he needs to get his hands one people to slow them down. He seems to get more penalties then i would be happy with.
Rating-58.6 Good player 55 rated kid if all works out
Grade-B i think just a ho hum pick. I feel he is slightly overrated coming into RZB but i could see his track record as one of the best guards in the college.
1 - 30 (30) Chicago davehibb Dusty Emmons G St. John's NY.
Pros-Wow back to back guards here and two totally different types. Dusty is from a smaller school but one of the smarter players that always seem to make the right decision. I like him as one of the quicker footed lineman in this draft adapt to playing pass pro better then most.
Cons-Average run blocker at best and just ok on strength on the field. He will not overtake defenders but is more sliding and moving the big heavies.
Rating-57.6 Good PLayer 54 rated if all works out
Grade B ANother kid i saw going in the 2nd round but early on. I think he can play at a decent level for 10 years but is probably never an all pro
1 - 31 (31) Seattle * Nick Samuel Lane WR Southern Mississippi
Pros-Bp wide reciever that is really raw. You have to love the speed this kid has and you wonder how good he really is. He was one of the better players at the combine and you can tell his speed on tape. He is a really good kick returner with all that speed and plays special teams.
Cons-Extremely Raw and unpolished. You give him a go route he will get there fast but his RR is extremely average. he has an extremely low endurance which tells me he does not creep too much and he will have a 0 in courage for going accross the middle.
Rating- 40.6 Makes roster 47 rated if all works out
Grade B- I know the BP bar and combines really scream at you but i think he is what you see there and that is a marginal to make the team in 4 years for Nick
1 - 32 (32) Cincinnati * Julio Riddols Peter Sweeney OLB Northwestern
Pros-Sweeney is a neat guy as he has all the talent to be a top 10 pick. There are a few holes in his game but all around probably one of the best pure football players in the draft. He is a run stuffing animal reading plays and gametape as he knows where to be in whatever formation the offense lines up in. Strong kid and will throw offensive lineman out of the way at times seeming like the incredible hulk on tape. He is one of the best players when it comes to instincts on the field i have ever watched.
Cons-All that love but he here is a few negatives on him. He does not have any agility pass rush moves. I think he will really struggle at the next level even though he will learn some. Peter has instincts all over the place but is an awful zone defender. He is a 0 in zone and never played it in college. They sent him at the Qb or RB like a missile or grabbed his shoulder pads and said guard this guy.
Rating-56.2 55 rated if all works out
Grade A I wanted this kid on my team. He is more of a MLB IMO but i think he is a 3 down guy that you can have him lead the defense each play.
